About this grant
The BFI Doc Society Fund's Features Production strand gives non-recoupable grants of up to £150,000 towards the production and completion of feature-length, independent non-fiction films by UK filmmakers. It has two strands: Directions for first and second-time directors, and Momentum for more established talent. Projects must meet at least three of the fund's six aims, covering equity, diversity and inclusion, impact and audience, talent development, creative risk, UK-wide reach and environmental sustainability. The fund opened on 7 May 2026 and is rolling until it closes in summer 2028. Applicants first submit an expression of interest; eligible projects likely to meet the aims are invited to make a full application. Development funding is offered through separate strands.
