PEN Translates (Autumn 2026 round)

About this grant

PEN Translates helps UK publishers pay for translating books from any language into English, so translators are properly paid and credited. Awards cover up to 75% of translation costs, rising to up to 100% for publishers with annual turnover under £500,000. Over the last four years the average grant was £2,750, with most awards between £1,000 and £4,750. Fiction, children's books, non-fiction, poetry and plays for print editions are eligible; magazines are not. The autumn 2026 window closes at 11.59pm GMT on 30 November 2026, with decisions about seven months later. Apply through English PEN's online form with the application form, budget, original manuscript, sample translation, translator CV and confirmation of rights. A spring round usually opens in April to May.
